Serge I would add Hitler, like Napoleon before him, suffered a dreadful defeat at the hands of the Russian WINTER and LONG SUPPLY LINES with the help of the Russian Army.

I agree w/Serge on this. It's only because the East was such
a closed society for so long that the western public is so
unaware of the great price paid by the Russian People in defeating
Hitler and Nazism. The literally move industrial cities from the
growing front, eastward thousands of miles, rebuilt their manufacturing base and within a span of two years were a much
more formidable and determined foe than the German army. Read
"When Titans Clashed" by David M.Glantz& Johnathan House and you
will understand who won "The Second War" as the Russians call it.
It was not won at Normandy, but Normandy non the less was a major
contributor.
