Dan:

Believe it or not the 2x4 is here. People are just blind that's all.

LSI is becoming a million/run chip manufacturer and not the
few-thousand-ten-thousand ASIC maker it used to be (again non storage PC business excepted - don't have a clue what exactly LSI does there).

These SOC designs if successful means millions of chips year in and year out. Envision 5 or 6 Sony PlayStation type chips all at once and you'll get the picture. GSM is one, DVD is another, DCAM a third...

Yes Jublak is right - if this is the underlying fundamental change in the tech sector that the pundits speak about then so be it. LSI is in a good spot. I would just add that storage is not going to go away. A PC needs MPU, memory and storage. Of the three, networks do not need as much MPU power and not as much memory as 500 separate unconnected PCs BUT I do think they do need oodles of the high end "connectable" variety that LSI's Fibre Channel designs can supply.

(Mmmm.. now that I think about it -s scratch the memory requirement - memory will still be needed - all those little PCs connected to the networks will need big fat chunks of memory to run the network apps. That leaves just the funkiest most powerful MPUs out of the picture and not needed for the 500 separate PCs - cheaper MPUs will do fine. INTC's problem not LSI's.)

LSI will face a problem with workstations but, hey, I guess they all can't be winners.

Jublak is a wise man!!!
