Hi Freddy,
We're sitting here watching the countdown to midnight on our local channels. Channel 18 is supposed to start broadcasting a message from God at midnight. Channel 4, not to be upstaged, has a crew at Chen's God of Salvation Church (his home) in Garland waiting for the appearance. When they interviewed him just now, he was very sweet and well-spoken.
CW is excited--for some Dallas homes that's the HomeShopping Network, but for us in SOuthlake, 18 is HBO and CW is hoping that it'll just stay hooked up after God speaks and we'll get HBO free from now on.

Compared to the rest of the news-which I guess I haven't read or watched in a year, Chen was the sanest of all the stories. That was a really depressing hour-we are a very sick society--from the Arkansas snipers, 11 and 13!!!??? --to Clinton dancing with some little African children (the man has no sense of rhythm at all)and holding up a baby named after him. When they said he referred to the baby as "My boy Bill", I lost it and CW said, "Mom, you're evil." "Yes, I said, I am a bad satanic mother. It's time you knew."

The news followed a special of the Titanic and then a program on Why Planes Crash. And yes, we certainly enjoyed that one. The TV is going off, despite entreaties--they can watch the reruns of God in the morning. And I'm going to look for something happy to read.

OK, the 12 yr old nephew of one of my co-workers was chopped up and cast into cement blocks this weekend by a one-armed Egyptian.

Taht can't have been easy to do. Was the Egyptian a Satanist?

sounds like a tag line for a show on Fox Saturday Kids Network. I watched the news here on the local Tampa ABC affiliate last night. Tampa is a real wannabe on the bad news front; at least for yesterday.... The 30 minute broadcast (this is a pretty big metro area, remember) had some stuff that they obviously used 'cause they needed some filler.

(God forbid that they should take ANY TIME AT ALL for anything remotely resembling good news....)

First a story about potholes. no lie. with the remote lady reporter standing next to a pothole with a STICK and poking it in the pothole to show us viewers the DEPTH OF THE DANGEROUS POTHOLE. Get the concept of getting paid for this. I was choking on my soda.

Next: 2 dogs that were inside a stolen car are found and returned to Gomer, their Master. INTERVIEW with Gomer about the dogs, and how they are like a family to him. Then, a lousy PHOTO of the STOLEN JUNKER CAR and the ARTIST'S RENDERING of the LICENSE PLATE. (this is obviously the only car that has been stolen in the greater metro area in at least 1 minute.

All this took the better part of 10 minutes in a 30 minute newscast...and I keep thinking about the people that talk seriously about it, like who is gonna drive over to the pothole and what kinda film and how's the lighting and how's the makeup.

Could be worse. Could be L.A.
