Hi Nguyen,

1. Earning release, according to first call will be april 15 of .37c
2. Rodney Smith (Altera CEO) has indicated at Goldman Sachs
conference back in February that booking from North American
distributions were STRONG.
3. Due to new acounting method, Altera does not see the revenue until
customers actually purchase its chips from distributor. My take
is that altera will meet or slightly beat 37 cents for this quater
4. Altera has been pulled back recently due to some concern of
softness booking of xlnx. But Altera had its turn of softness back
in q3 and q4 of fy97, and xlnx was not. So now is xlnx softness
cycle (if there is) with new product transition and shoud not be
1:1 related to altera booking
5. if you look at revenue grow in 96 to 97
xlnx has goes from 560 mil to 568 mil revenue
altr has goes from 497 mil to 631 mil revenue

6. It needs thick skin to trading with altr, xlnx. they 're such
a very moving stock. be patient, you will come out a winner of
these stock this year

Happy trading,

This refers to two posts back.

Jason,
Just wanted to clear up some things about your post.

1. According to the ALTR web site, earnings come out on April 15th.
2. Although Asia is only 5% of revenue, Japan is 20%. The problems of Southeast Asia aren't directly related to Japan, but Japan isn't in very good shape either.
3. I don't think that the distance from its 52-week high and low is a very good measure of risk.
4. I'm going to trust you and the analysts that the North American market is doing well.
5. While I would like to see 43 in the next couple of days, I don't think that will happen. Besides, I think that 45 is the bigger number. Speaking technically, if we can form a nice ascending triangle up to 45 in the next two weeks and we meet or exceed earnings, we have a good chance of blowing through any resistance. That is upside potential.
