HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 1998--Emerging Company Report, the nationally syndicated television program that profiles emerging-growth companies features an interview with the chief executive officer of the only publicly traded professional sports league, The United States Basketball League USBL . Shares of the Boston Celtics BOS have traded and been followed for years. But the USBL went a bit further by making the entire league a publicly traded enterprise. A national league may offer even more growth potential than an individual team. The success of the USBL has been demonstrated by 13 successful seasons. During these 13 years, the USBL has produced more than 113 NBA players, including greats such as Muggsy Bogues, Chris Childs and Charlie Ward. With games played during the summer, the league does not compete with the NBA but functions as a farm league like minor-league baseball. The franchise fee of a new USBL team has risen from $100,000 to $300,000, with the price expected to jump to $500,000 by the year 2000. The league currently has 12 teams, with at least 60 more planned. Other companies being watched on Emerging Company Report this week include:

-- ProLong International Corp. PROL , whose ProLong Super Lubricants products have been endorsed by many racing legends, including Al Unser. -- Tasty Fries Inc. TFRY , whose French-fry-vending machines cook and dispense a fresh, hot order of French fries. -- Say Yes Foods Inc. SYES , whose fat-free flavored milks are now available to more than 5,000 Southland Corp. SLCM 7-Eleven stores across the United States. -- Universal Ice Blast Inc. UIBI manufactures and markets ice-blasting machines for use in industrial cleaning. Ford Motor Co. F is a customer.

Scheduled companies in the coming weeks include HomeComm Communications Inc. HCOM . Emerging Company Report airs each Friday evening at 11 p.m Eastern, 8 p.m. Pacific; and again on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. Eastern, 8:30 a.m. Pacific. Perhaps the next success story like Microsoft MSFT or Intel INTC is currently an emerging-growth company.
