Just saw the new Apple TV commercial. They rip Intel by doing a sendoff of the colored suit ad. They're playing "Disco Inferno" while they say "Sorry but Intel's burned toast" over the speed of the Mac G3 chip, all the while the guy's blue space suit is on fire. It was pretty funny.

Duke,

There are several reasons why companies increase the number of authorized shares. As you pointed out, in Intel's case the use of shares for acquisitions is unlikely. Extra shares, however, could be reserved for future buyback programs if and when they become desirable. Extra shares are also used for executive compensation.
