Mike,

Oh, that explains it. I thought I was the only person to consciously avoid the north-south freeways. I know I don't have a whole heap of faith in the Nimmitz.

For my part, I have crossed the Bay Bridge excactly four times since Loma Prieta. Second to the Bay Bridge, the Carquinez Bridge gives me the willies, and don't even get me started on the Benicia Bridge. You jsut gotta wonder about a bridge that forbids trucks and busses in the extreme right-hand lanes. Funny thing is that the Carquinez Bridge is probably the safest of all the bridges. I guess the Dumbarton is my favorite, assuming one could have a favorite bridge up here. At least, it doesn't give me the usual bridge/tunnel white knucle syndrome.
