Thomas -

Why won't credit cards work. Ive had no trouble with mine, exp. date 00?

It all depends on the merchants credit card equipement. I had my "00" card rejected in a cab this week. The driver was aware that it would be rejected. It's his on-board verification hardware, with software embedded in the hardware (in reality the line between hard & soft ware is very fuzzy).

The cab was also equiped with a fancy $1000 dispatch unit that has just been installed with great public (like WSJ) fanfare... so far it's not helping was the cabbies opinion.

Thomas,

I'm not just saying that failure to "swipe" correctly will be bad.
I'm thinking in terms of your credit card issuer or bank or
merchant having less than 100% of its y2k problems fixed.
Any link in the chain could cause trouble.

A very good read is the appendix in Yourdon's book Time Bomb 2000
where he discusses the "RIPPLE EFFECT".
