QUALCOMM Announces CDMA Wireless Local Loop Trial Agreement in China

SAN DIEGO, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM)
today announced it has signed a contract with the Beijing Telecommunication
Administration (BTA) for a cdmaOne(TM) (IS-95 Code Division Multiple Access)
Wireless Local Loop (WLL) trial in China. Under the terms of the agreement,
QUALCOMM will supply infrastructure equipment, subscriber terminals and
deployment services for the 1900 MHz CDMA WLL trial in the Wukesong area of
Beijing. The trial system has already been deployed and is operational.
"As the developer of CDMA technology and a leading supplier of CDMA
wireless local loop systems, QUALCOMM has a great deal to offer Chinese
operators, including strong products, global deployment experience and
unparalleled CDMA expertise," said Larry Hartigan, regional vice president
North Asia, for QUALCOMM's Wireless Infrastructure Division. "We are pleased
to have the opportunity to showcase our wireless local loop system to the
Beijing Telecommunication Administration and other Chinese operators, and we
look forward to the certification of our equipment for commercial sale in
China."
The agreement specifies that upon successful completion of the Acceptance
Test Plan, which consists of a series of functional and performance tests
defined by QUALCOMM and the BTA, the BTA will purchase the CDMA WLL system.
The BTA intends to acquire market and end-user information about WLL services
and technology throughout the three-month trial.
The trial system consists of QUALCOMM's distributed scaleable QCore(TM)
22X Integrated Base Station Controller, QCell(TM) 2519e base stations and 200
wireless local loop subscriber terminals. QUALCOMM's products optimize
cdma0ne technology to its greatest potential, providing high-performance
networks to operators all over the world. The system will be designed using
QUALCOMM's industry-leading network planning software tool, QEDesign(TM).
QUALCOMM will also provide a range of deployment services, including
installation, commissioning and optimization.
QUALCOMM has emerged as a leader in the WLL arena with commercial WLL
systems in Russia and India, and other WLL deployments underway or planned in
Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, the Philippines, Russia
and the Ukraine. As the pioneer of CDMA technology, QUALCOMM continues to
