Ramsey - it is crucial (just my opinion) that QCOM grab the opportunity to do some type of manufacturing JV in China.

While I agree that it would be a good idea to get into a joint venture in China, it is also problematic. First there is the issue of Intellectual Property. Several joint ventures involving intellectual property have gone under due to concern over lack of protection (e.g. VARL). And others have had problem with getting ripped off in general. The partner never follows through and there is little recourse for the foriegn company due to the fact that the rule of law is still pretty weak in China. (Given the fact that you actually do business in China, maybe you could enlighten us on the subject. My knowledge is all second hand.) So, I think Qualcomm should pursue such a venture, but hopefully they will proceed cautiously.
