Creative made a simple business decision that they could make more money with MacMall (their catalog business). Their decision only involves a few stores. Don't know about Illinois, but in SoCal there is a strong presence of CompUSA and Fry's. In San Diego, the Fry's (formerly a huge Incredible Universe) is about a mile from the old Creative.

My clients have said that the CompUSA store-within-a-store still leaves something to be desired. But the old Creative had its problems, too. Haven't tried the Fry's SWAS yet but all in all I think San Diego has lost one specialty store and gained two mass retail outlets in the past couple of months and the subsequent mindshare will follow.
