INTERSOLV DataDirect Helps Drive the Evolution of JDBC; Company Demonstrates New JDBC 2.0 Technology at JavaOne
ROCKVILLE, Md., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- INTERSOLV, Inc. (Nasdaq: ISLI - news) today announced support for the latest Java(TM) Database Connectivity (JDBC) specification from Sun Microsystems. JDBC is the industry standard for database-independent connectivity between Java(TM) technology and a wide range of relational databases. As one of the first vendors to introduce compliance for the new JDBC 2.0 specification, INTERSOLV DataDirect continues its technology relationship with Sun and demonstrates its commitment to providing reliable, high-performance data connectivity that extends Sun's ''Write Once, Run Anywhere(TM)'' approach to eliminating cross-platform complexity.
With the endorsement of JDBC 2.0, INTERSOLV DataDirect continues to work closely with Sun to fully extend the reach and range of Java technology for complete access to corporate data sources. INTERSOLV will demonstrate building advanced applications using the enhanced functionality of JDBC 2.0 this week at Sun's JavaOne(SM) Developer Conference in San Francisco. Utilizing its expertise and leadership position in standards-based data connectivity, INTERSOLV will demonstrate the ability to easily build portable Java applications using JDBC 2.0 -- specifically, a real-world, e-commerce application that has the ability to connect to multiple databases across the enterprise. INTERSOLV will also be presenting in several seminars at JavaOne.
''We are pleased to see today's announcement from INTERSOLV,'' said Lew Tucker, director of strategic relations at Sun's JavaSoft division. ''DataDirect empowers Java software developers to leverage the full capabilities and power of the Java platform in creating powerful, flexible applications with enterprise data access capabilities.''
Working with Sun in the development of the initial JDBC specification, INTERSOLV DataDirect was one of the first to deliver an ultra-thin, 100% Pure Java(TM) data access middleware solution to fully support JDBC -- DataDirect SequeLink Java Edition. Now, as one of the first companies to support the new specification, INTERSOLV continues to demonstrate its support of the Java platform. DataDirect provides a full range of data connectivity solutions for Java developers, offering a complete standards-based solution for enterprise data connectivity.
''Working together with Sun since the inception of JDBC, INTERSOLV is dedicated to providing Java software developers with transparent, easy access to data for both Internet and intranet-based applications,'' said Edward Peters, INTERSOLV vice president and general manager of DataDirect. ''The Java platform has the promise of delivering real-world benefits for component- based, distributed computing across the enterprise, and DataDirect solutions are intended to maximize the Java architecture by providing reliable, high- performance connections to data across client, server or web-based deployment.''
INTERSOLV DataDirect is at JavaOne in booth 717. Presentations by INTERSOLV at JavaOne can be found on the ''JDBC Overview'' section of the INTERSOLV DataDirect web site at www.intersolv.com/datadirect. During the Tuesday, March 24 presentation of ''Database Connectivity with JDBC Technology,'' Jeff Cahill, INTERSOLV DataDirect product manager, demonstrated both a real-world Java JDBC 2.0 e-commerce application and the new JDBC 2.0 functionality already implemented in DataDirect SequeLink Java Edition. Mr. Cahill will also present with Sun Microsystems on Friday, March 27 at 1:30 p.m. on ''Future Directions in JDBC Technology.'' John Goodson, INTERSOLV DataDirect director of research and development, will speak on a JDBC panel discussion, ''Database Access for Java,'' on Thursday, March 26 at 5:15 p.m.
