Parkfield had always "complied" with relatively exact timing, over a long period of time. That it has failed to do so now is indeed puzzling and perhaps troubling.

Equally troubling is the US Geophysical Department's decision to move its headquarters from Menlo Park, although they give cost-cutting as the reason for this move.

Do you know anything about the geyser up in Napa County that is said to foretell earthquakes in Northern California, albeit by only a few days? I read something about it shortly after Loma Prieta, but have heard nothing about it since.

An exellent book is John Nance's "On Shaky Ground." It deals primarily with the 1964 Alaska quake and the tsunami that hit Crescent City as a result. It discusses earthquakes in general and the irrefutable fact that it's not just California that should be worried about and preparing for The Big One. In fact, Texas is the only state that has never had an earthquake and probably never well. Are you listening, Miss Penni?
