in fact make Dell cheaper than these "white boxes".


I think you are wrong. I know quite a few white box makers. And their expertise lies in getting prices far below the contract prices paid by DELL and other mfrs. You will be amazed to know how much excess inventory is sold by INTC and others in 'wholesale' market and at such ridiculous prices that they can still make profit by selling to white box makers. And of course white box makers live with lower overheads and lower profits.
