JF, My 2 cents! I bought a Gateway 2000 instead of a DELL in July of 1996. I was able to get the configuration that I wanted at a price I thought was reasonable. I could not get this exact configuration from DELL at that time. I have friends with both DELL and Gateway. I have dealt with technical support with both companies, and found competent help, and in the case of Gateway, it was over Thanksgiving Day at 2330 (local) and the support was from Florida where it was 0230! I had to be impressed with that kind of 24 hour support! It was good help too! In the long run, I want help on my 'clock', not a small 'box' assembler that can't provide that kind of service! I am sure that CompUSA will be able to provide a computer 'cheap' enough, but I don't believe that the support will be there at a cost that I can afford! When a computer 'fouls up', is when you find out that you bought the correct system! When you are 'drowning', and the life-line is extended and your problems intelligently approached, not just the "Well, Just reload your system!" response! Not that it won't eventually lead to that as I found out running Microsoft Software, and finding it failing, calling Microsoft Support (NOT CONTRACT) and spending 8 hours on the phone with the technical staff (and I can assure you that they KNEW THEIR WAY AROUND!) being told that I had to reload the system, as the status continued to change with each reload! CompUSA will sell you what ever you want, BUYER BEWARE! Regards, Ken PS - I shop at CompUSA a lot! Like the prices! Been working in the computer field since 1961 and I think that I have an idea how they work.
