A WSJ article today says that General Instrument plans to announce that it has picked Motorola and Quantum Effect Design to supply the microprocessors for its new STBs. Also throws some business at Broadcom for chips used to transmit movies, Internet and Internet telephony. Looks like LSI didn't get a piece of the action.

GI expects to pay about $10 for each microprocessor - maybe it won't be that great a deal for the suppliers. I guess the huge volume could make up for tight margins though.
