JavaSoft follows the money, fails to deliver

infoworld.com

Ironically, JavaSoft has had difficulty delivering what products it
already has. Conspicuously absent at JavaOne is its
HotSpot dynamic compilation technology

But don't worry, Gosling said its Sun's top priority to improve
performance this year. And fix portability problems. And fix bugs.
And keep our masters (eg. IBM) happy. And...?

"We will cooperate with our partners on the Java specification,
but we will compete on implementation," said Jonathan
Schwartz, JavaSoft's newly appointed director of product marketing.

Reality check. What he really meant to say is:

"We will bicker with our partners on the Java specification, and
then deliver functionally compromised, incompatible implementations"

"We would be stupid to do anything that threatened the future of
Java," Schwartz said.

Just like you did with Unix?

Keep up the good work Sun. Bill will keep on laughing is way to the
bank.
