Based on this past week's and especially today's action, it looks like ADBE is going to be on target or report an upside surprise. New highs to come perhaps as early as next week, barring a Far East (especially from Japan, where do a fair bit of business) surprise, IMO.

As for buying Corel--it would be so cheap to buy them right now--and put an end to most of their stuff. They wouldn't have to pay much of a premium to the roughly $2 and change , maybe they would pay $3 and change, still less than $200 million or perhaps slightly more. And, if the stock (ADBE's that is) does go to new highs, they could pay for it with relative cheap currency, write off all of their work in process, and set themselves up for another jump in earnings next year. The WP franchise is obviously essentially dead, but it probably serves MSFT's purpose to have them stay alive in niches, just like Apple. Hell, they might even get MSFT to bless it! And it is possible that ADBE can make it profitable as a niche word processor, as long as they don't seriously challenge King Gates.

Just some musings that may or may not make sense. I really don't know all of Corel's programs anymore--haven't followed the company for years. But they probably also have some programming talent there that may be worth keeping (if they haven't all be chased away), especially with Adobe now working on an entirely new page layout program to replace PageMaker. Could be some synergies between WP and the new program as well, if ADBE wants the new program to seriously challenge Quark in publishing and newspaper markets.
