Ali: This is moot; the K7 will use the DEC Alpha bus protocol, which communicates with the logic chipset at 300MHz. This is why DEC has been able to consistently improve the Alpha to stay MILES ahead of Intel. The alpha has a much lower transistor count than the PII, yet is far more efficient. Jerry was wise to choose the EV6 bus protocol for the K7; it will be able to outperform a Katmai at lower clock speeds. Intel has been so successful because it has been using an open architecture, hence reducing cost. Those Taiwan logic chipset and motherboard manufacturers were some of the reasons why WinTel won the war. Now, Intel is turning against it's former allies and wants to keep things proprietary; Look what happened to Apple....they had an even bigger market share in the early 80s.
