Hi NW; I'm not sure I deserve any credit with being smart on that move, fair instincts maybe..like I found my self were I never intended to go to start with..and didn't feel to bright, other things just sort of said run. -------------------- I didn't see that about the front running , maybe it'll slow it down some, maybe the brokers don't like it on the floor as it mussels, in on the in house running. How do brokers hold short positions in highly traded stocks..it's a trick..my shares of CPQ trade before they can hit the NYSE thats for sure if I buy at the ask, or sell at the bid it's like instant. So there is some degree of front running in the brorkerage house..and if it weren't I think things would slow down to a snails pace or just glog up. But they don't like to see it on the floor..heck not just on the Philly floor..last week they got a gang on the NYSE floor. -------------------- PS Roughly MSFT avg vol 16M INTC avg vol 16M CPQ av vol 21M --BUT WAIT taht would be 42M if it traded on the Nasdaq..as the Naz counts each trade as two as it passes via the market maker..CPQ on a normal day trades 10M more actuall shares than BOTH INCT & MSFT put together if yiu count the Nasdaq way it's one of the most liquid stocks of all, if not The most liguid. ------------------- One other thing back pre 87 crash the 10 higest volume stocks carshed the less..and were the first to recover..and actuall if bundled together as a group they went up..and made money that year..were damm near nothing else did..( like if you had the 10 highest vol in a portfolio ) that portfolio made money that year. now I would have to check more as I didn't pay attention if it was just NYSE stocks or not..I think it was. So saftey wise pick the 10 of the higest avg vol on the NYSE, and it seems you will weather a crash if you don't panic, and also likely make money even if the rest don't. ------------------------------ I did one on my Own..another way..after the fact of last OCT.. taking the MEGA caps GE 4:05PM 82 -5/8 -0.76% 4,179,700 24 -$15.00 -0.76% GENERAL ELEC CO IBM 4:14PM 106 +2 1/2 +2.42% 6,745,200 11.1 $27.75 +2.42% INTL BUS MACHINE KO 4:35PM 76 3/16 +3/16 +0.25% 2,642,600 16.3 $3.06 +0.25% COCA COLA CO MO 4:28PM 43 5/8 -1/8 -0.29% 5,558,100 11 -$1.38 -0.29% PHILIP MORRIS MRK 4:42PM 130 -1 7/8 -1.42% 2,410,600 12.5 -$23.44 -1.42% MERCK & CO MSFT 4:01PM 88 13/16 +3 7/8 +4.56% 31,060,900 17.2 $66.65 +4.56% MICROSOFT CP RD 4:02PM 57 1/4 -3/4 -1.29% 1,650,700 11.6 -$8.70 -1.29% ROYAL DUTCH PETE T 4:29PM 68 +1/2 +0.74% 5,837,800 9.3 $4.65 +0.74% AT & T WMT 4:12PM 49 5/8 -7/8 -1.73% 3,414,600 9.2 -$8.05 -1.73% WAL-MART STORES XON 4:29PM 67 3/4 -5/8 -0.91% 2,908,400 15.7 -$9.81 -0.91% EXXON CP ------------------------- While we had a sort of bear market from OCT to Jan 12 Those above weighted by market cap and as a group made very good money in that mini bear market. --------------------------- From then on as a group ^IXIC 4:45PM 1824.51 +12.07 +0.67% N/A - - +0.67% NAS/NMS COMPSITE AFL 4:03PM 64 3/4 -3/8 -0.58% 193,400 55.85 -$20.94 -0.58% AFLAC INC AMD 4:09PM 22 15/16 -1/8 -0.54% 1,715,600 23.47 -$2.93 -0.54% ADV MICRO DEVICE CMH 4:01PM 21 5/16 +3/4 +3.65% 504,200 16.19 $12.14 +3.65% CLAYTON HOMES CR 4:01PM 51 5/8 -13/16 -1.55% 52,700 16.19 -$13.15 -1.55% CRANE CO FI 4:00PM 63 -1/8 -0.20% 7,100 16.19 -$2.02 -0.20% FINA INC FLR 4:01PM 50 1/8 -1/4 -0.50% 638,600 24.28 -$6.07 -0.50% FLUOR CORP FRT 4:00PM 24 1/4 -1/8 -0.51% 185,100 8.1 -$1.01 -0.51% FED RLTY INV TR JCI 4:13PM 59 7/16 +1 1/16 +1.82% 438,300 31.56 $33.53 +1.82% JOHNSON CONTROLS UK 4:18PM 48 11/16 -5/16 -0.64% 521,800 47.75 -$14.92 -0.64% UNION CARBIDE CP VAR 4:05PM 56 +13/16 +1.47% 87,800 13.76 $11.18 +1.47% VARIAN ASSOC ------------------- The above Mid caps have come back to beat the MEGAs pants off, but if we get a real pull back these could take some sharp dives..seems to have to do with how liquid they are, and that may not always be told by volume, but more by market cap, yet thats today run , and you can see the vol on the MEGAs is much more..( cut MSFT or other Naz vol in half when comparing with NYSE ) Jim
