I've already bought a bunch of protective "puts". I will "put" my 300 CPQ shares out of sight and out of mind for 10 years. When I look at my holdings then, I'll bet you you can't buy that kind of protection!

Longgggggggggggggg CPQ

<<You can only buy protective puts and write calls against you stock holdings in a IRA. That is the rule.>

Tom: Thanks for the quick response. "That is the rule". Is that an IRS rule, SEC rule, or an industry rule. Selling puts in an IRA should be allowed if covered calls are allowed. There is no fundamental difference if the put you sold is covered with cash.
