There is not even prototype silicon for merced, they have not even taped out the first cut on the chip according to various sources (including C-S News and several other trade rags). In the past, volume production is more than a year after first silicon, and merced is a lot more complex than anything Intel has done before. So a more likely estimate is late 99, maybe later for volume.
