Tony, sounds like CTEC could have done a bit better on the PR for this one. That is a touch disappointing. Wonder why they didn't do more to reap a little publicity on this...ahead of the fact?? Perplexing.

Talked to a guy who heads Walgreen's marketing development effort. He said they periodically do various programs to demonstrate the value of Walgreen in health maintenance. They are more often one-time events, although they do study the results vs. expectations to determine how successful things were. This program will not be rolled out to the rest of Walgreen's stores and will be discontinued at the end of the five-week period. He also thought the LDX machines had been leased for the period, so we won't get any big revenues from this program either.

As far as this heart attack awareness program goes, CTEC's device was chosen for all of the expected reasons: light and portable, easy to use, provides immediate results. Getting the cholesterol reading done cost the customer $20. Apparently, the customer interest has been a little lower than they expected, but with the program still in effect, they don't have information that is too accurate yet.

From a bigger picture perspective, he agreed with me that physicians are indeed trying to become more than just order-fillers and offering services like this on a regular basis will increase their value in this managed care chain. Good to see that CTEC is in the middle of it.
