"The primary reason Wintel bests so many companies is because the mgmt of many tech entities don't realize that a business is much more architecture and production"

This seems to be one of your favorite themes. To paraphrase "tech guys don't understand business". Its kind of a "gee whiz" approach like "you can't knock success" or "what works, works". That is simply your bias but it is not grounded in fact.

There were some key choices in the early eighties which more or less fixed the trajectory of the PC market.

1) IBM decided to use Microsoft and Intel
2) The IBM marketing folks changed Microchannel from an open standard to a closed one (I know this because of my involvement with IBM Austin Labs from time to time), thereby fueling the clone market and losing control.
3) Microsoft outwitted the sluggards at IBM in the OS/2 and PM fiasco
4) MS released Windows 3.0

and the rest is history

Notice the lack of clever Intel management at each point.
