Well, right now I think the advanced mask writing tools are running at pretty much 100% capacity, so consolidation wouldn't add much efficiency. For the longer term, yes consolidation could reduce inefficiencies and duplicate orders, but it's unclear how that will balance against overall demand growth as 0.25 micron production ramps up.

For the short term, certainly the problems in Asia don't do ETEC any good, but many of the Korean and Japanese companies are responding by diversifying away from DRAMS. More diversity means more designs, means more masks, means more sales for ETEC.

In response to your unwritten question, I think I'm bullish on ETEC right now. But, as someone else pointed out in another thread, money is how you folks keep score, and I don't have any of mine riding on them.

(Or any other semi industry stock, for that matter. Conflict of interest and all...)
