<<<I've been kind of surprised by GT's sales numbers on this one, and surprised that a side scroller is selling at all.>>>

You have never been accused of asking difficult questions have you?
Very mixed feelings on Abe. It's more frustrating then peeing up a rope. On the game side, I really wish that they would have explained with a little more detail what is important and what isn't. Such as you need to escape from the meat packing plant but I didn't realize until I read some reviews that rescuing your co-workers was vital to the conclusion of the game. However, I simply cannot take away too much from the overall quality of the title. The graphics are incredibly rendered. The Gamespeak is inventive and the sound matches up with the game play pretty well. I understand that side scrolling could be seen as outdated and a thing of the past but LucasArts has proven to me in the SPS market that it isn't technology but technique that is the key to great games. In short, Abe is a game that you either love or hate. I have found very little in between in the opinions I have gathered. For me, I grew weary of dying repeatedly. I realize that there is no life limits but more than once I wanted to scream "GET ON WITH IT!" Let's face it, there are still some people out there who get a kick out of dexterity games and Abe relies heavily on this.

Now what I am curious about is will OddWorld monkey with the gameplay? In other words, will they continue down the same format(as far as the gameplay) or will they make some deviations? My feeling is that you have to answer certain repetitive customer complaints and if they do this then like some movie sequels the next four installations (yes, Oddworld has claimed there will be five total) could do wonderfully. If they fail to deviate at all then I suspect that the sales will drop from sequel to sequel. Unless they build a core cult audience then I can't see how sales will increase from chapter to chapter.
