Jim and all--
I am new to this thread, having just purchased an entry position into TLK. IMO, the rise in the stock is attributable to the perception that Suharto will bend to the will of world leaders and allow the IMF to shower him with billions of dollars, thereby averting an Indonesian meltdown.

I can see Suharto smiling like a Cheshire cat at the prospects of all those dollars. That seems to be the prevailing reason for the rise in the stock, but if the stock is going up, what more reason does one need?

I think that Indo will likely do some sort of deal with the IMF involving the re-packaging of foreign debt. The market has already discounted a fair amount of this but will continue to move up when the news is confirmed.

Also foreign investment managers (the main buyers of TLK) are very scared of missing another rally in Asia. They have already missed the doubling of the Thailand and Korea stock markets and do not want to miss the next big rally in Jakarta. Most Asia Pacific funds have underperformed by 10% in 1Q98 and they don't want to see that underperformance increase even more.

I think that, unlike Telmex or other emerging market telcos, TLK is very expensive and so you will not see the kind of returns from TLK that you normally see after market crashes
