I suspect that most of that 28% is AMD but there is also Cyrix, IBM, Motorola, and IDT....
Whether or not AMD makes any money or not is NOT the point. They probably won't. I'm not saying they won't lose share back either. The direction of pricing, market share, and margins are what Wall Street looks at. Now tell me...which way is the direction of market share?
Studies show that announcing stock buybacks causes the average stock to rise 13% in the SHORT term. Longer tern it's a tossup whether a stock rises or not. Lot's of times there are clauses attached to "annoucements" of stock buybacks pertaining to "if market conditions allow". Many times the stock never gets bought back. You just never know.
