Paul, Hi!!! <<>>> EXPERTS AGAIN.......everywhere......everywhere..... Does there seem to be some type of concern over this recent Kaufmann announcement....??? And, out of the wood work come all types of possible negatives....are these "experts" of 1998 still have trouble reading? I was just wondering....for in the most recent postings I have found Mort Topfer reporting: "We continue to see strong momentum, nothing has really changed from our fourth quarter outlook." Dell's president Asia Pacific Phil Kelly said Dell has been operating in the region since 1993, and hoped it would make up 25% of global revenue within five years...Asian region sales in the fourth quarter to Feb 1, 1998, grew 79 percent to $240 million, despite the currency turmoil in South Korea, Dell's second largest market in Asia." ...... The company stated on this past Wednesday it " has been unaffected by a PC price war in the United States and expects its strong sales growth to continue through 1998." In the MSD interview...Is the server business your fastest growing business right now?....."No, that's not true anymore. The workstation business is the fastest growing." MSD How have your volumes been through the last couple of quarters? ........"Good, strong and increasing." MSD "Our average selling prices are holding pretty steady because any decline in the desktop space is being offset by increases in notebooks, servers and workstations." MSD What's your average ASP now? .....About $2,600 How much of your sales is online?...."We're doing more than $3Million a day, which isn't anywhere near 50%, but we have parts of our business that we think are leading indicators. The consumer business is more than a third. In a lot of key markets, such as the United States, it's more than a third. In Japan, more than 50 % of our consumers buy online. When Canada launched its site in June, we gave them a goal to get to 20% by the end of 1997, and they were at 25% by July! So it's hard to figure out how fast this stuff is going to take off, but it's going to." And, my personal favorite: How close to the end of the game are you?....."Well, I'm 32 years old. You tell me how close I am to the end!" The audacity of Kaufman to issue this....I certainly hope they are held accountable when Dell runs away again this year.... Best, Kemble
