Mary,

It seems like a lot of the discussion on this thread is based on what Intel is doing in the personal market. I'm not sure what the personal PC represents as a percent of Intels total business?

I received a Goldman Sachs Feb '98 survey today (I'm a large corp guy) which to me indicates considerable strength in the corporate market. It's a long survey of Fortune 700 companies but
let me pick some of the key findings:

- Spending on technology is expected to increase in 1998.

- PC spending the same or higher than 1997. Unit growth +5-10%

- Corporate buyers reluctant to buy <$1K PC, prefer "longer life"
high end machines.

- Spending is moving towards high end servers - away from desktop.
(good for Intel, right?)

- Strong increase in spending for NT - Unix holding steady.

All in all, I read this as positive for Intel and helps offset some of
the doom&gloom over losses of share to AMD and loss of sales to Asia.

Larry

Mary, OTOTOTOT (mostly) >>>Are you related to Frank Viola?<<<

No.

>>>Do you remember that game between Yale and St. John's
University? Frank Viola versus Ron Darling for the NCAA championship. Perhaps the greatest
pitching dual in college baseball history. <<<

No. I heard a lot about it when they were both pitching in the majors later on, but didn't follow college ball enough to have taken notice of it when it happened.

So, what's the story about your current, today's, this moment's opinion of Barrett? All this back and forth banter about fire in the belly, superstar or not, MVP or not, Hall of Famer or not, triple crown winner or not, and whether we need any of the above or not in a CEO, we can't let go for naught. You have to let us in on your current thinking. The suspense is driving me nuts.
