Charles - on any over the counter exchange {NASD or OTC} the spread is determined simply by the greed of the MM's. Pure and simple.

Sometimes a tight spread promotes more trading and conversely a large spread sometimes is intended to discourage trades. Either way the MM's make thousands and thousands every day, buying your stock at the lower BID and Selling it back to you at the higher ASK.

MM's intake depends exclusively on the Stocks trading volume.
Of Which ZULU has plenty as compared to most.

I think his point is that if you'd bought Bre-X "when it appeared it's worst" you'd still have a lousey stock and would still have lost money.
