Well, I wouldn't get too comfy if I was you regarding the shakes. In SoCal, the Palmdale Bulge is still the rage. Al norte, Big Slip is still locked. Howsomever. there are other places far more dangerous (due to lack of preparation) in the US of A, such as the Mississippi River valley between St. Louis and Memphis, the Charleston SC area, and the St. Lawrence river valley. Also possible but unproven -- the Great Lakes tectonic zone (!) and Superior syncline.

And yes, the Cal plate is underriding the Pacific plate, which is why you have so many ocean floors lined up in SF.
