So, briefing.com knows that Dell is in trouble, but Micahael Dell does not? Or, are you suggesting that Dell is being untruthful?

Reality check: whether it's the Kauffman Bros. or Kurlack or Joe Blow, these are estimates and forecasts, and don't affect the actual profits. Their only effect is on nervous investors who feel compelled to act on every change in opinion. Since I'm a long term investor (typically with a five year time horizon minimum) I view most of what they say as noise. But, there does seem to be some general agreement about certain trends.

1. Dell has indisputably the best sales-production-distribution model in the business, but competitors cannot easily immitate the model for fear of losing existing channels;

2. The industry seems to be squeezing out the second and third tier players like AST and Packard-Bell;

3. The Asian economic crisis is temporary in nature, and we could expect a resumption of robust economic growth within 18 months according to some observers. Other believe it will take considerably less time;

4. Windows 98 and its eventual NT-like successor will stimulate computer sales;

5. Countries like China are just being opened for computer sales.

When I put all of these facts together, it spells a bullish outlook for Dell over the long-term. As to its price in the market tomorrow, or next week or next month, I really don't care. I'm much more interested in where it will be in 2003. My guess is somewhere in the neighborhood of $400.

Regards,

Paul

Rational X, quit being SO irrational. Briefing.com hates DELL. Don't believe everything you read.
