Worried about the Year 2000 computer problem? Here's a new one to fret about: the Dow 10000 glitch. If the Dow Jones Industrial Average hits this lofty level, it would be the first time the market indicator is expressed in five digits.

That may clog up financial software designed to handle only four-digit Dows, much like many programs were designed to handle only two-digit year codes, says software designer Thomas J. Penn of Oconomowoc, Wis. He says concern about the "D10K" problem "will spawn the usual parade of opportunists" who have sprung up to fix the Y2K bug.
