I am not sure Adobe has to bundle for Wintel sales.

Consider the picture from Adobe's side:

Tha Apple Outlook:
1) They are demanding that Adobe rewrite all their apps for Rhapsody. This is a horrible prospect. How can Adobe justify the tremendous expense - there are not enough guarenteed sales there!

2) Quark has dominated Adobe for a long time on the MAC and it is getting worse. Nobody uses PageMaker in a graphic arts shop and nobody knows FrameMaker exists. Illustrator and Photoshop are used but Quark is attacking on this front too by bundling some of those tools into their program.

The PC Outlook:
1) This is a general office environment. They want a simple page layout program that is cheap. PageMaker is perfect. Illustrator and Photoshop do not need to be bundled because the average gun-chewing office worker seldom needs photoshop and never heard of Illustrator.

2) No demands to rewrite apps in this environment. Just do incermental upgrades to existing products.

3) FrameMaker is actually used here - by people putting together manuals, science applications, etc.

4) Quark? Never heard of it.

Therefore, Adobe loves PC and is going to give more and more of a cold sholder to Apple. All this will come back and bite them as Rhapsody gets accepted in a big way by the corporations.

Peter,

After talkin' to soup, this is the way I see it.

- With the possible exception of the 603es, Apple has cleared it's old inventory with a good margin. The 6500s are still a question mark, but may be doing better than I thought they would, according to some sources.

- I think the G3s are selling well to the established Mac crowd. Any knowledgeable user, other than graphics/video/audio (as soup pointed out) would have to be dying for one, if they have anything less than a fast 604e. Fry's was selling a 233 desktop with an Epson 600 printer the other day for $1699. That's a pretty tasty deal.

- With the excellent advertising, I think Eric ,Phil and Leonardo are right. Revenues will be good.

But as for the next 10 days or so, the stock price could take some hits. The shorts have got to be building with the news of the last few days.

- Amelio slinging poop at Jobs with both hands and his feet.
- The Imagtec suit.
- Adobe earnings.
- Intel rattling swords over the Bunnies ad.

This will set the tone unless they announce a CEO sometime in the next week. The problem is, every one of those stories has weaknesses. Amelios getting laughed at by some journalists because of his sour grapes attitude. Imagtec is a penny stock on it's last legs. We've discussed the Adobe thing. And I don't think Intel is going to be able to do anything but eat crow.

Come April 6 (11 days), we have potential hot news once a week for 4 weeks straight. It could be short squeeze city. I think it's great.

Let the games begin.

Regards,

Scott
