The PB1400C/166/2G/8XCD dropped from $2999 to $1999 in anticipation of the new all-G3 lineup starting at $2500.

Because AAPL gives 30 day price protection to its major vendors (which they pass along to customers), the drop was intelligent foresight.

For what it's worth, I haven't seen any big price drops from the $1999 level. (BTW, this unit is a very nice box and can be G3 upgraded for about $700.)
