It is really off-topic to discuss options on this thread. I will give you brief answers from my limited experience with them.

The jumps is a fix to the normal, where the underlying is more persistent than normal. Large events do happen more often than what normal predicated (this is well known fact), so buy long-term out-of-the-money options will be better. Most traders of options and derivatives do not understand options at all (in terms of theory). The nerds do not understand trading at all.

I like to translate thoughts and math into plain English. Anything that can only described in math is useless.

The views and methods of large traders are not matters. Eventually they will get burned. The key is to understand volatility. People talk more about it than understand it. The understanding has to be expressed in plain English, not sigma.
