Philip,

Thanks for the report about JavaOne.

Bipin also mentioned that there were about 15,000+ developers @JavaOne.
Most of all, BORL booth is one of THE MOST POPULAR ONE to visit.

regards,

BPP(Bipin's partner)

Philip, I think that my post was misunderstood. There are two parallel universes in existence today. The Universe of Windows, which is dominated by MSFT. In this world, J++ is by far the most capable and Windows ready development tool. But I think that the Windows arena, while still lucrative to apps developer, is not very exciting.

Then there is the universe of open systems. Enterprise technology. Standards. Distributed computing. Etc. I believe that the immediate benefits of Java are to be found on the server side, and thin clients. With a lot of unknown possibilities with devices such as your Java ring, etc. This is really exciting stuff.

MSFT owns the desktop, and they will for years to come. Hopefully, in the next few years, market pressure will force them to give up their quest for total control, and finally embrace open standards. However, the only way this will happen is if it refuses to buy MSFT's "enterprise" story.

Is Microsoft at JavaOne? If so, are they saying or showing anything notable? Thx...
