Joe, the writing does seem to be on the wall. The x86 market is becoming a commodity one. I wouldn't be surprised to see what happened to Micron also happen to Intel. But, while Intel's margins are crashing, they are very solid financially. If Intel wants to avoid big problems, then they should learn from Apple and IBM and steer away from proprietary platforms - the marketplace hates proprietary hardware platforms and protocols. Except Microsoft!

Joe,

"[Joseph Stumpf] think[s] in the end after some rough time AMD, NSM, IDTI might do well."

I strongly disagree on AMD. NSM might be OK because this company is not declaring a Jihad-like war against the biggest semiconductor company in the world, especially after Slot-I is granted to NSM.

"other companies like Texas Instruments might decide this is a great time to jump in the x86 CPU market"

Other companies like TI are not going to make the same mistake again unless quite a few investors I have come across.

"KILL INTEL"

What is this? An investment forum or a hate group? Why are you so jealous of Intel's success? If you do, don't be, just become an Intel investor.

John.

Jozeph - Re: " Price wars may heat up as they did, say in the memory
market and also the disk drive market, We have all seen this happen time and time again in the technology sectors. "

News alert - the price wars started about 10 months ago!

Intel is still highly profitable.

AMD lost money in Q397, lost more money in Q497 and announced SUBSTANTIAL LOSSES will be reported in Q198.

AMD's CFO resigned - I didn't catch your discussion of the significance of this issue.

AMD has filed to sell new stock and/or bonds to raise cash!

Intel thinks that their (Intel's) shares are cheap and will be buying them back - with money in their piggy bank.

Guess who is winning this war?

Paul
