Pancho, for the second time in one week a friend has asked me whether he should invest his savings into a mutual fund, or borrow money at the bank at 6.5% and invest it in a mutual fund. In both cases I tried to explain to them that markets can go down and that they can lose part of their capital. They had a lot of trouble believing this.

What is amazing is that here in Canada banks are desperately trying to lend money to their clients in order to sell more of their mutual funds. It is like double-dipping for these banks, they make a loan and they sell a mutual fund.

XAU is up about 10% in 2 days although gold is up about 2%. I read rumors that the Japanese are going to announce that they are going to have there own YEN backed currency, thus the sale of dollars. Also heard EMU is going to be backed by 30% gold. April will be very interesting indeed.

Speed-breaker alert.
OK some folks have asked why YHOO quote is shown on this thread and I have not seen any answers so I have guessed it for you.
The YHOO quote acts as a speed-breaker to enthusiastic shorts before they go on shorting ;-)
An indication of what might happen to a short when it goes against; mighty thoughtful of whoever put it there.
But is it not too big a speed-breaker to drive on? and if big speed-breakers are in fashion, would AOL not do the job better?
Should they have dog stocks as speed breakers on long threads not devoted to a particular stock? ;-) so many questions...
As the wise readers might have guessed, this is Friday afternoon and I am feeling a bit sleepy so it is an attempt to keep awake and bring some life on the thread.
