Stew, you're correct if referring to diatreme kimberlite (hard, igneous). However, crater facies kimberlite (much more likely to be encountered at shallower depths) can be drilled to depths from 75feet to 150feet, depending on who you talk to. Other material depths that can be reached with the auger drill: consolidated sandstone about 70 feet, and loose sandstone and/or till 150 feet.
