Jabbering Jane:

I am not your teacher, nor your mentor. Your dearth of historical knowledge is believable since you have placed your mind in a philosophical straitjacket.

The monasteries of Tibet are very old. Some go back almost to the days when Egypt was ruled by the mighty Pharaohs and the emergence of Dynasties began in feudal China.

Tibetan books are kept for prayers, rites, and also record histories and particular events. Priests are assigned to re-record old documents so that they don't crumble away as you surmised. Some are copies of copies of copies of originals that first existed thousands of years ago.

Maybe you should get off SI and go back to school. It would also help you to travel and immerse yourself in foreign cultures and ideas. To paraphrase the great bard, "There are more things under the heavens and upon earth, Jane, than is dreamt of in your philosophy."
