Sun Finds No Joy In Microsoft's Java Moves techweb.com

Sun Microsystems co-founder and vice president of research Bill Joy said "nobody is fooled" by Microsoft's Visual J ++ language or what he called Microsoft's "Java maneuvers."

Hey! I said that, but I wouldn't expect to find much consent on the other side on that one.

"Once you have written your application in Java, even if you wrote it with their [Microsoft's] new platform-dependent classes, porting it to platform-independent classes is that much smaller of a step," said Joy. "I think Microsoft is damned if they do and damned if they don't. It's a slippery slope toward platform independence, which customers clearly want. It's clearly an enormous benefit for our industry."

Enormous benefit? I hope so, but certainly a threat to the proprietary lock aka monopolistic death grip. Dang that other Bill, stealing my lines without credit. I'll sue!

Cheers, Dan.
