why is ADBE's overall market shrinking?

My take on the ADBE situation is that, typical of app makers, their revenue is completely dependent on upgrade cycles. The last quarter had no major upgrades for them, so their revenues tanked.

As far as their PC sales doing better than Mac, that could have to do with growing use of PhotoShop and Illustrator among corporate PC makers instead of CorelDRAW. This certainly makes sense in terms of COSFF's recent dismal performance. Mac design shops probably upgraded the instant PhotoShop 4 came out, because they're much more serious about the product. I seem to remember ADBE having a good quarter or two recently (though I don't follow them closely).

Oh, and in terms of commitment to the Mac, the impression I have after Seybold is that Adobe is more committed than Quark. Adobe is integrating ColorySync throughout (John Wharnock spoke at Seybold with Jobs), while Quark just signed some big deal with Microsoft.

At any rate, good to see AAPL do okay despite ADBE's problems.
