Toby , interesting points in the Lotus-IBM article :

" Running the place " (after IBM bought LOTUS)

... within a matter of weeks when Lotus' new leadership decided to use its power. They pushed to slash Notes' price by half, seizing on Microsoft's delay in delivering a competitive product.

Papows says the idea was to make a run for market share, getting more
users by making Notes cheaper. But those at Lotus didn't know how
receptive IBM would be to the idea, especially coming from newly
initiated leaders.

Papows still recalls how IBM's Gerstner and Thompson listened to the
idea and looked him straight in the eye.

You're running the place, they said. Do what you want. "

And the article goes on to list how successful both parties became together by remaining separate .

Wow ! Old news but it must be timely and could it work again , say in a lesser form ?

Regards,
Jim K.
