J. - Notice the word "expansion" in the contract award. Expansion contracts of existing systems are obviously not available to QCOM. Head to head contracts for new systems are the ones to care about.

Here is a contract. ualcomm Inc (QCOM) Late yesterday, QUALCOMM INC said it had signed a contract to provide the infrastructure equipment, terminals and deployment services to operate a wireless local loop telecommunications system in China. The contract was signed with the Beijing Telecommunication Administration (BTA). Financial details were undisclosed. Under the deal, the system will operate on a trial basis in the Wukesong area of Beijing. The trial system has already been deployed and is operational. (Reuters 07:19 PM ET 03/25/98)
