Companies such as Qwest, Level 3
Communications, and the Williams Cos. are laying fiber-optic cables and using Internet technology to build faster, cheaper systems than old phone networks.

That was a great post! Could we have some discussion about which network equipment companies are in a position to take advantage of the deployment of fiber optic cable and when will it start showing up in the earnings reports? I believe that one of the analysts at the conference in Monterey said that for every dollar of fiber optic cable deployment, another dollar would be spent on switching equipment. I understand that CSCO and ASND sell core switches for this type of cable. Are there other companies who will directly benefit and when will this show up in the earnings reports?
