Cary, I don't resent Intel, I respect their engineering. I got nothing bad to say about the Pentium II, I'm quite impressed that good quality LX mobo's can be had for marginally over $100 now, and that the PII 233 is scheduled to get down to $150 in 6 month's time. It's just the Celeriac that's silly. And, I'm not wild about the proprietary lock thing on the PPro/Slot1 line, but that's life, I just wish I knew about it a year and a half ago. Anyway, competition is good, I hope the socket7 crowd can keep it up for awhile. You think there'd be $1000 PCs in their absence? The "proprietary lock is a necessity in business" crowd assures us that once they're gone, we're back to the old gold plated model.

As for Bill and co., resentment isn't quite the right word either. My experience with Microsoft products, aside from Win95, has been favorable. But the top-down PR pronouncements about how happy we're all going to be with NT5 ruling the world, whenever it gets around to shipping, plus DNS and the web lifestyle- spare me. Intel doesn't talk like that, they got this "Intel doesn't comment on unannounced products" line. Intel also takes antitrust law seriously, and doesn't think it's just another PR battle, or go around whining about how unfair it is that antitrust law applies only to monopolists.

Bill's ok, brilliant businessman and all that, I just don't trust him, or believe what he says. Windows could be replaced in a day, you know, and he doesn't care about the stock price either. He's taking us where we want to go, of course. I apologize for worrying about where, exactly, that might be.

Cheers, Dan.

Cary, I looked back at the post you responded to, and now I got to ask what "resentment for some of the most successful entrepenuers this country has ever seen" you're talking about anyway. Sounds like an ad hominem to me, or a straw man argument, or something. Even Sal, who's as much in awe of Intel and Microsoft as anyone, thinks Celeriac is junk. You got some contrary information, go ahead and post it, "50 who tout there product roadmap" is, uh, not exactly informative. Of course, that's not what the press is for, anyway. I apologize for getting confused on that issue.

Cheers, Dan.
