Penni, my trail of logic is really to articulate something that struck me as silly to begin with. I liken it to racism. It is simply a disavowal of other people and their right to their life. I think the issues of pedophilia and sexual abuse are better left to a discussion of sexual harassment and rape - the exercise of power without regard to other people. Therefore, to me it is surely completely different. With regard to the literalists, they certainly don't express my view of the true enlightenment that I think Christianity represented historically. The reliance on Old Testament remedies, flies in the face of the Hope and Good News, that flows from compassion and redemption. To slavishly repeat authoritarian dictums seems to me the mantra of the led. "Hey, I can't do anything about that. I'm only following the rules." Great for government workers. But I guess I'm a Sidartha kind of guy. I prefer to be the leader of my life and take responsibility for my own values. It is my path, and mine alone. I choose and don't get told. I have no fear about my journey. I shall be eternally thankful that I was just given the chance to take it.
