If I have a I* or G* phone, do I still need a cell phone or will the sat phones replace my cell phone? Is there a difference in the two systems with respect to this question?

Jim,

Seems I read someplace (like on the Iridium homepage) that I* handsets being developed are "dual mode" meaning that they'll first look for a cell site before using the Satellite. I don't know if G* handsets will be the same but one would expect them to.

Frequency and modulation used is much different between cell and space but that's a couple chips more I guess.

Cheers ------- Leon
